One Summer

One Summer by the always incredible Bill Bryson is a journey through the year 1927, with a particular focus on aviation, the economy and sports – and it’s a lot more interesting than it sounds.

Bryson really brings to life probably the last year before the modern times and takes you through the birth of commercialised air travel, television and the popularisation of contemporary sporting life. If you’ve read any Bryson before then this won’t disappoint, and if you haven’t, you must.
